You see lots of offers of FREE downloads on the Internet – be aware that many of these will also load Adware which not only opens a new window with ads, but also can collect data on your Internet browsing habits, like Spyware!

Remember the basics:

  • Do not download from the Internet unless this has come from a known reputable source.  Read the terms and conditions carefully.
  • Be very careful using “file sharing applications” as these networks are known breeding grounds for infectious software.
  • When downloading software, choose the ‘expert’ or ‘configure’ option and de-select any programs that you do not want.
  • Use a good anti-virus/anti-spyware application and scan your system at least weekly.

Windows Users – Be sure to visit the Microsoft update site and download all the latest Microsoft security patches. https://www.update.microsoft.com
